Will Bloom (Billy Crudup) never really believed his father’s outlandish stories. In fact he never really felt like his father (Albert Finney) was much of a man at all. While Will is practical and down-to-earth, his father seems to neglect his responsibilities and spend all his time on imaginary adventures. Will stopped speaking to his father three years ago and has very little respect for him. However, when his mother (Jessica Lange) asks him to please come to his dying father’s bedside, to try to reconcile and spend his last days together, he gets on a plane and goes, as a dutiful son. Much to Will’s chagrin, the dying father he encounters is unrepentant and continues to tell tall tales. However, as Will begins researching things to prove his father wrong, he finds more and more truth than he ever expected.
